Boeing 737 spray prototype takes to the air

RVL Group’s project to develop a Boeing 737 oil spill dispersant capability took a major step forward this month with the successful testing of a prototype spray system on board a Boeing aircraft in the USA. The flight trials in Dothan, Alabama, allowed various configurations to be tested as the design phase moved towards its conclusion.

Once the system is fully approved for use in the USA and Europe, which we expect to happen during 2014, the system will initially be used to provide ‘last resort’ capability for the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency in dealing with oil pollution in UK waters.

The oil spill response market currently lacks flexible and modern spray systems, and we hope that our fully self-contained system which is capable of installation onto almost any modern Boeing 737 freighter aircraft will eventually find commercial opportunities beyond its initial UK customer.

Bluesky signs 3 year deal with RVL Group

Having successfully completed a trial year with our newest customer, locally-based Bluesky, RVL Group is proud to announce that a new contract has been signed to provide them with two dedicated aircraft until the end of 2016.

The Cessna 404 and BN2 Islander will be employed gathering LiDAR and thermal data throughout the UK as Bluesky’s presence in the aerial surveillance and mapping market continues to grow.

Bluesky is the latest customer to take advantage of the availability of offices, operational and engineering support and a 24 hours response capability within RVL’s facility at East Midlands Airport.

Swiss role for Spectralux

RVL today completed a series of flights in the vicinity of Bern, Switzerland where aircraft G-BWLF was undertaking flight trials on behalf of US-based avionics company Spectralux, who were testing specialised communication equipment for use in the avionics market worldwide.

This is the first time we have worked with Spectralux. We welcome them as a new customer and hope that this successful first contract may result in us working together again soon.

Environment Agency contract renewed for further 5 years

RVL Group is pleased to announce that the Environment Agency has awarded us a new 5 year contract for the operation of two dedicated aircraft. We are delighted to be continuing our close and successful working relationship with the Environment Agency – one that now goes back more than 16 years.

The decision to retain both a Cessna 404 and Reims Cessna 406 on national LiDAR and photographic surveillance duties is a very satisfying vote of confidence in us and the changes we have made in our business since the last contract was awarded to us in 2008 when we were still operating out of older, smaller premises in Coventry.

The Environment Agency contract includes the provision of a fully-serviced suite of offices within RVL Group’s facility at East Midlands Airport, giving it instant access to the aircraft and hangar where their specialist equipment is stored and installed.
